Hipster Disney

These made my life.

Funky Pumpkins

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year: costumes, candy, and pumpkins! For this Halloween, I decided to come up with an alternative to carving pumpkins. Not because I don't like carving pumpkins. I carved some earlier this month and they were super cool.

Yes carving was fun. But due to the splendid Hawaiian weather, unfortunately our jack-o-lanterns went from being fun and spooky to looking like a pile of pumpkin throw-up on my porch.

After cleaning along with smelling the melted pumpkins, I decided to come up with a suitable alternative besides buying a crappy plastic pumpkin or putting in the effort to carve another just to watch it melt is less than a weeks time. Instead, I painted one! Painting the pumpkin was turned out to be an awesome alternative. It was fun, creative, and less messy for the most part (unless you're a dingus like me and spill tempura paint on the carpet).

I did my pumpkin with zig-zags and polka dots. What I would recommend to others (which I didn't do myself) would have been to paint the pumpkin one color first like black or white and then gone over it with other colors. If Foodland hadn't run out of pumpkins, I definitely would've painted another pumpkin and done that the second time around. But I'm still happy with how mine turned out. It's funky, chic, and not only does it look super good both inside and outside our house, it'll last longer and it's not so overly Halloween but still festive enough that I can keep around for Thanksgiving. And if you want that pumpkin smell that fills the air when you carve open a pumpkin, just cut a slit in it.

Menken

Random thought of the day, I was listening to the Kingdom Dance from the soundtrack to Tangled because it's one of the best scenes in the whole movie and the music there is just stunning. Then it suddenly occurred to me; the day that Alan Menken dies will be one of the saddest days of my life. He is hands down one of the best composers for Disney. I take solace only in the fact that he did not compose my all-time favorite (*cough* The Lion King *cough*) but regardless, his work is amazing and scattered across some of my most loved movies! The man has won 8 Academy Awards, for crying out loud including for Beauty and the Beast and Hercules, which are both in the top 5 all time Disney movies. He even composed Hunchback of Notre Dame, which is one of my personal favorites. He's a genius! Brilliant! I sincerely mean it when I say Long Live Alan Menken!

Clothes Are Empowering

They really are. One of my dance teachers used to tell us to dress to class as if we were in a professional class  because if we were dressed our best, we would dance our best. That proved to be true on the days were I wore basketball shorts instead of leg warmers.

It's one of the best feelings in the world to put on a piece of clothing and be transformed. To be able to say "Oh yeah, I am freaking fierce!" We all have those items whether it be underwear that makes us feel sexy or those jeans that make you look hot. For instance, I feel on top of the world when I wear my wolf hat. Put that puppy on and I am the most cutest, feral thing on the face of the earth.

Ok so maybe I look like the guy with the bear hat from True Grit. He was only in the movie for twenty seconds. I'm pretty sure it was just so they could use that costume. The world just had to see that hat.

Regardless, my wolf hat empowers me. I added boots. And I then went from the cutest, feral thing to the hottest. Oh yeah :P

I was really proud of this outfit ok? After a week of being depressed, it was nice to shower and wear something cute. Sadly enough, my goal for the week was just to shower. So I definitely went above and beyond here.

I hereby declare that everyone should go to their closets now and put on that item of clothing that makes them feel sexy as hell whether it be a bear hat, a kilt or whatever. Just own it! Realizing you don't have to dress like other people is one of the most freeing moments.

This is my new favorite song in the world. Whoever says the Florence + the Machine cover is better is on crack. Florence, I love you, I truly do. But the original is way, way, WAY better.

Cakes y Caballos

Ok so I've wanted to blog about this for a while now but I just haven't had time and  dealing with my emotional state has been more pressing business. But on Saturday, October 8th, Trevor took me on the best date! I seriously had so much fun and I want to share the pictures we took. We went to the Swap Meet and into Waikiki in the morning for a picture scavenger hunt. It was nice because we just walked around, took pictures, and laughed at at the silly things we did and saw. He took me to the Cheese Cake Factory for lunch. I have never eaten there before so it was pretty exciting. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake? Uh, amazing!

Someday, late at night, me, husband, hormones, whip cream, and that cake ;) It was that good.

And then after that, we came back to Laie and went on the moonlit ride at the Gunstock Ranch. This was very exciting and I was so touched that he took me. I love horses. I have always wanted a horse (someday I will have stable full) and I used to work at a ranch. I've missed being around them since. And he knows that so it was so awesome that he did that for me. What could be better than riding horses with my man? And he looked so cute! Sitting on top of his horse with his big, old grin. Man, he just has the biggest, cutest smile! I love it so much. We were naughty a few times and slowed down our horses so we could briefly trot/canter to catch up to our ride.

Anywho, picture time!
